For the last 3 years in my downtime from Ros na Rún, I’ve been recording an album of songs that I’d written over many years. It’s a totally new venture for me – exciting, and like the best things I guess, scary as hell.
In one of my favourite places on Earth in Co Clare, I discovered a magical studio playground, where I worked with music legends Garry Ó Briain, Dónal Lunny and Dermot Byrne among others. Garry’s genius guided us in crafting an eclectic ‘Folk Fusion’ – light and airy, influenced by Latin, Eastern and Irish sounds. I’m overjoyed and humbled by the result.
The album is called AM I AM, and the songs come from my personal, spiritual journey. They draw from my life experiences and explorations – in Shamanism, Christianity, Oneness and other traditions – to find the Truth that lies beneath the tangible world. My current understanding of that truth is that all of creation is One Being, expressed in countless unique forms. What I’m drawn to lies beneath the surface of things – the peaceful inner place where all is one, and which is unaffected by the turbulence of outer life.
I’m in awe of the music legends I’ve been privileged to work with. All of the musicians and singers inspired me with their extraordinary talent, humility, kindness and good humour. Feckin’ Geniuses indeed!
